Introducing the new painting series “COOPER’S BEACH”

I love the beach.

Not as a roasting body parked on a towel, oiled to perfection and oblivious of the sea.

More as an observer, all senses on alert, witness to the colors, sounds and smell of the waves, the gliding motion of the seagulls, the sticky sand between my toes.

I like matter.

I like to touch, to feel, to experience.

Rough or smooth texture, just being in the moment of the touch.

Makes me feel alive, right there.

My favorite beach ever is Cooper’s Beach in Southampton, NY. Beautiful sand, crashing waves, always plenty of space and life out there. Whatever the season and the weather, I’m home on that beach.

To express its beautiful intensity, I chose to use modeling paste for volume and texture, natural pigments for color, and transparent polymers that seal the underlying Japanese paper waves in a frozen motion.
